The distribution night before Thanksgiving is always one of the most rewarding nights of the year! White and Steele volunteers Laura Fuller (with kids Leah and Jackson), Karen Caston, Louie Reininger, Louis Garcia, Sarah Harrington, and Susan Portillos helped 25 families take home a turkey and enough fixings to have a great holiday dinner! Almost 600 turkeys were donated to Metro Caring this year for families in need to have a traditional Thanksgiving. Volunteers were able to help give out 3,009 pounds of food (the most our volunteers have ever seen!). Laura and kids sorted produce, Louis spent the night in the freezer stocking bins, and Sarah, Louie and Susan were in the marketplace assisting shoppers.
“We were grateful to be part of this work, and I especially appreciated that children were encouraged to help. We get so busy and focused on our own lives. It’s easy to forget how much need is around us, and what joy and fulfillment there is in even having a small part in serving others. Thanks for the opportunity!” -Laura Fuller
A lot of families were able to have a good Thanksgiving this year. Thank you volunteers!
